I have a love/hate relationship with sports. My dad insisted I play them – basketball (he was a basketball coach), softball (worst two years of my life), volleyball, swimming, track & field (took city champion one year). Some were more fun than others and in later years I tried old people sports – golf, bowling. I loved hiking and took my last hike up Mt. Cristo Rey. I can’t stand to watch sports except football and our favorite team the Rams (I know they suck right now). I always wanted to take dance lessons and finally did some Tango. Like my kid I think I would have fared better taking martial arts. I’ve wanted to do a marathon (walking) just once but I doubt I’ll get to it. The one thing I did get out of my dad making me play those sports was coordination and a physical confidence that I’ve seen lacking in others. So for that reason, I’m happy I didn’t fight to stay in the stands. Meh, now the left side of my body doesn’t work so well and I have to watch what I do, but I move almost every day. If not sports, enjoy moving! It really is good for you.
